WeWork Office
Birmingham City University. Second Year (2019) | Design & Development Project
Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD | Concrete Framing & Rooftop Garden
The WeWork Office will incorporate features to improve workplace productivity. The site sits within Birmingham’s famous gun quarter; therefore, brick will be used in the external façade to retain an authentic 1940’s vernacular whilst incorporating a green roof and curtain wall system for a slightly modern twist.
The WeWork office is a flexible workspace which targets the productivity of its habitants. The building aims to boost productivity through flooding the workspace with greenery and natural light. Indoor planting will help reduce formaldehyde levels to reduce psychological stress. The curtain walls will also allow natural light to cascade and reflect off the vibrant interior within the building. The space will be open plan but also incorporate individual offices to accommodate for workers who may feel more comfortable working in their own personal space.

An emphasis will also be placed on flexibility and sustainability of the building; therefore, I have opted for an open plan office with moveable walls and moveable eating areas. A rooftop garden will also allow for the workers to get some fresh air whenever they need to. This space can be used for socials as well as a work area.
Rooftop Terrace
The Rooftop garden will be a sustainable feature which has been incorporated based on the client’s requirements. The green roof will not only provide good temperature regulation but allow for a multi-function feature. Workers can use the space to work or for social purposes. The park benches and gazebos are suitable for small meetings, if the employees prefer a naturally ventilated atmosphere.
The site will feature oak trees to give the quarter a more vibrant culture. A small car park will be situated towards the west section of the site; however, five bike shelters will be placed (each housing 10 bikes) to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in accordance with Birmingham City Councils Zero Emissions City plan.
