Joseph Priest Rennovation

Birmingham City University. Second Year (2019) | BIM & Facilities Management Project

Autodesk Revit | Spatial Planning & Alterations for improved workplace productivity

The Joseph Priest building functions as a student support building offering guidance to students and alumni of Birmingham City University. Therefore, workers will be required to use telecommunications as well as IT systems to perform their role and may require their own individual working spaces. Not all staff may be comfortable with the noise levels associated with an open plan office, therefore, the redesign involves a quiet zone within each floor plan in which noise disruptions will be minimalized as much as possible. The outcome of these new floor plans will increase productivity by improving sound attenuation and increasing the availability of natural light through both active and passive construction techniques. The redesign also features specially selected indoor planting (bamboo palm trees) to reduce formaldehyde levels associated with the core building materials. The reduction of formaldehyde will contribute to stress relief through providing workers with clean air.
